Order up! Journal Square's best hot dog
Jersey City residents will eagerly point you to Boulevard Drinks when asked about the best hot dogs in the area. Boulevard Drinks has been a Journal Square staple for over 30 years, grilling up the same custom-made hot dogs that they've been doling out on buns since Speros Bardis bought the location in 1962. His son John still stirs the secret chili recipe at the very same establishment all these years later.
"Do you know how many people call me from California, Georgia, Florida...asking me to send them a dozen hot dogs and a large chili," says Bardis.
John Bardis is proud to own and operate what is known as "the golden hole-in-the-wall hot dog joint" of Jersey City. The retro feel of the space brings back childhood memories to all who enter. "I feel great and honored," Bardis says. "I see new people come every day as well as repeat customers." Many of those repeat customers who were kids when they began going there are now bringing their kids and grandkids.
People love to come here because they get served in under 2 minutes, and they get the same product every time, as evidenced by their 5 star rating on Tripadvisor. John is here most days, meeting and greeting everyone while also taking a customer-first approach to service, remembering regulars' orders just by seeing their face. After just a few visits to Boulevard Drinks, you will feel the same love.
“I just like that we’re part of the community, and of the many generations moving here. It’s a privilege to me that I'm able to serve them,” says Bardis.
